Inset Cabinet Hinge FAQ

Inset Hinge is a concealed cabinet hinge mounted inside the cabinet so nothing shows on the door face. It gives adjustable, repeatable door alignment and is specified by cup size, opening angle, and overlay type.

Concealed (European) hinges sit inside the cabinet and are invisible when the door is closed. They are the standard for modern frameless and face-frame cabinets and allow three-way adjustment.

A 35mm cup hinge has a 35mm-diameter boss that seats into a hole bored in the door. 35mm is the furniture-industry standard cup size; 26mm is used for thin doors.

Self-closing hinges use a spring to pull the door shut over the last few degrees; soft-close hinges add a damper so the door closes quietly without slamming. Many hinges combine both.

Choose by cup diameter (35mm is standard), opening angle, and overlay type (full overlay, half overlay, or inset), then confirm face-frame vs frameless construction and whether you need soft-close. Match the mounting plate height to your door overlay.

Overlay hinges are for doors that sit over the cabinet face; inset hinges are for doors that sit flush inside the frame opening. Overlay is further split into full and half overlay depending on how much the door covers.

95°–110° suits most doors; wide-angle (155°–165°) hinges are used for blind corners, pull-outs, and where the door must clear an obstruction.

Overlay is how much the closed door covers the cabinet side. Measure from the door edge to where it meets the cabinet opening, then pick the matching hinge and plate (full overlay, half overlay, or inset).

A 35mm cup is typically bored 12–13mm deep, set back about 3–6mm from the door edge. Confirm the boring against your door thickness before volume production.

Common materials include Stainless Steel, Carbon Steel, Zinc Alloy, Aluminum, Brass, Copper. The right material for inset hinge depends on load, corrosion exposure, and target price.

Available finishes include Matte Black, Brushed Nickel, Satin Nickel, Polished Chrome, Satin Chrome, Antique Brass. Finish affects appearance, corrosion resistance, and cost.

Bore the 35mm cup, screw the hinge boss to the door, fix the mounting plate to the cabinet side at the right height, then clip the arm onto the plate and adjust the three screws for overlay, height, and depth.

Euro screws (typically 6.3mm) hold the mounting plate, and smaller hinge screws fix the boss to the door. We supply matching screws with bulk hinge orders.

Use the three screws on the hinge arm: one moves the door side-to-side (overlay), one moves it up and down (via the plate), and one moves it in and out (depth). Adjust in small turns until the gaps are even.

Usually the depth or side adjustment is off, or the mounting plate height does not match the overlay. Re-adjust the arm screws; if it still will not sit flush, confirm the hinge overlay matches the door.
